Netflix has been a great respite from all the crises the world is facing right now. Hopefully the situation will improve and use platforms like Netflix to deal with it.

Netflix subscribers have the luxury of accessing a massive library of OTT features, regardless of their location. Therefore, fans should take the opportunity to get their dose of entertainment.

Alexander Aja’s 2021 sci-fi horror is nothing short of a spooky roller coaster ride. The film begins with a woman waking up in an isolated unit, with the reason for her presence unknown to everyone.

As the plot unfolds, the narrative shifts from entrapment to the case of a stolen identity, which then shifts to another scientific precedence. However, audiences are puzzled by the final reveal that transforms the entire narrative.

Oxygen is a French Netflix film starring Mélanie Laurent, Mathieu Amalric and Malik Zidi.

There is something exhilarating about watching a good thriller that requires us to watch until the end and see how it resolves. Unfortunately, there aren’t many filmmakers who can create one. The knack of keeping audiences on their toes for the duration of the film is rare. That’s why we always appreciate old masters like Alfred Hitchcock. They had the ability to create and maintain the suspense until the very end, keeping us fully engaged on screen. Of course, increasing the blood pressure is only part of the formula. The timing of the release must be perfectly timed to justify the suspense and not leave us disappointed. Many young writers and directors have cut their teeth in thrillers and thrillers and have created true masterpieces. Here are a few.

1. The sixth sense

source img: blogspot.com

Year: 1999

Directed by: M. Night Shyamalan

With: Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, Toni Collette

The phrase “I see the dead” has become legendary even among those who have not seen this excellent film. Bruce Willis plays a child psychologist tasked with helping a boy with his hallucinations. One of his former patients, played by Donnie Wahlberg, draws his attention to the case because he suffered from the same problem. The character of Willis appears to be the boy’s only hope. However, his wife, played by Olivia Wilde, resents him spending so much time with his patient. It’s a shame the film, despite six nominations, didn’t win a single Oscar.

2. Creation

source img: srcdn.com

Year: 2010

Directed by: Christopher Nolan

With: Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page

The all-star cast and direction and writing of the brilliant Christopher Nolan helped make Inception one of the best films of the decade. The film follows Dom Cobb, a talented thief highly skilled in the art of extraction, a process where secrets are stolen from a victim’s mind while he sleeps. This makes Cobb a valuable asset in the world of commercial espionage. However, he paid a heavy price for his past actions and found himself isolated away from his family. The last job is her chance to make everything right and to have the chance to see her children again. There is, however, a fly in the ointment, represented by his ex-wife, who has the power to ruin even the best of his plans.

3. The silence of the lambs

source img: rogerebert.com

Year: 1991

Directed by: Jonathan Demme

With: Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, Lawrence A. Bonney

Clarice Starling, played by Jodie Foster, is an FBI intern, working tirelessly to make a name for herself in law enforcement. His boss of the FBI’s Behavioral Sciences Unit commissions him to interview one of the most notorious serial killers, dr. Hannibal Lector, in the hopes that it might help them catch another serial killer, nicknamed Buffalo Bill. Lector, who has been in maximum security segregation for eight years, becomes interested in a young FBI agent and the two develop a working relationship, albeit an odd one. The killer they hunt has a very particular MO: it targets young, slightly overweight women and drowns them in natural bodies of water. Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins both won Oscars for their performances. The film also won academic awards for best film, best director, and best writing.

4. The Green Thousand

img source: hollywoodsuite.ca

Year: 1999

Directed by: Frank Darabont

With: Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke Duncan, David Morse

Based on that of Stephen King novel, The Green Mile is a thriller with a supernatural twist. Tom Hanks plays the role of a prison warden, responsible for the Green Mile, a section of the prison where death row inmates await execution. One day, he receives a new inmate, convicted killer John Coffey. Turns out there’s more than meets the eye about Coffey. He has a knack and the guards don’t know how to react. When their beloved guardian’s wife falls ill, they desperately turn to Coffey. Despite the grim settings, The Green Mile is a touching story about the best and worst of humanity and how it affects us all.

5. The usual suspects

source img: onebauer.media

Year: 1995

Directed by: Bryan Singer

With: Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne, Chazz Palminteri, Stephen Baldwin

Turns out the criminal world has bogeymen too, and Keyser Söze is the worst of them. After an attack on a ship carrying a drug cargo that left 27 dead, a group of usual suspects are brought in for questioning. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that they are hired by Söze, a mysterious criminal mastermind famous for his cruelty and ingenuity. No one knows who he is and no one has ever seen his face. The gang in question has one thing in common, however. They have all wronged Söze in the past. Hailed as a film with one of the best, if not the best twist, The Usual Suspects has garnered almost a cult following and is still very popular today, 25 years after its release.

6. The shutter island

Year: 2010

Directed by: Martin Scorsese

With: Leonardo DiCaprio, Emily Mortimer, Mark Ruffalo

Together, Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have created true masterpieces over time and Shutter Island is certainly one of them. Although it was snubbed by critics, the film was a hit with audiences. DiCaprio is a detective investigating a crime at Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital, a mental institution. He soon discovers that doctors working at the hospital perform various unethical and even illegal procedures when treating their patients. At some point, it becomes clear to him that there is a conspiracy targeting him and that he has been implicated on purpose. To prove it, he needs access to hospital records, but permission is denied. To make matters worse, a huge hurricane is approaching, cutting off all communication with the mainland and leaving them all stranded on the island.

Netflix is like a dense and mysterious jungle with lots of great movies, TV shows, and documentaries hidden deep within various categories. Most people often have a hard time finding a new movie or show to watch while moving from one category to another. One of the many categories is suspense or mystery, which amazes those looking for thrills with twists and turns. What better way to while away the time locked inside the house than to watch a good murder or missing person thriller on Netflix?

Thriller Movies on Netflix

While there are many amazing movies available in different languages, it was difficult for us to list every movie that our teammates liked. I’ve curated a list of some of the most popular and best thriller movies on Netflix.

Let’s get started.

1. Missing girl

Based on the book of the same name by Gillian Flynn, Gone Girl is a missing person and a mysterious murder that turns the lives of a seemingly happy couple upside down. The narrative will continually change and you are never quite sure about the main characters or their intention. It’s not just the couple. It seems that everyone has their secrets hidden under layers of the social fabric that we call society.

Thriller Movies on Netflix 1

Gone Girl will force you to rethink the couple and married life where you can be both victim and aggressor. Maybe that’s why Amy (the missing girl) is saying, “We’re so cute I want to hit us in the face.” That sums up his take on their marriage.

2. Fracture

The film begins with an ordinary day. A couple are traveling when their daughter’s arm breaks. They go to the hospital for treatment when his wife and daughter go missing while he is taking a quick nap. No one remembers anything, nor are there any hospital records.

Thriller Movies on Netflix 2

Fractured does a good job of keeping your mind occupied with thoughts of what will happen next. The hospital is a beautiful setup, something most people will identify with. I mean, it’s a place that nobody wants to visit if they have a choice and you don’t always know who to believe.

3. The invisible guest

The story is about a perfect night gone awry. A happy and loving couple book a hotel room. The man wakes up the next morning to find that his lover is now dead. The next thing is obvious as to who is blamed for the murder.

Thrillers on Netflix 9

What follows is a cat and mouse game where the man hires a lawyer to protect him from landing in jail. Or, did he really commit the crime? You will love to unravel this mystery.

4. Sleeping Hollow

This one is a classic where you’ll see Johny Depp at his best, at least for me. Set in 1799, at the dawn of a new century, Depp is sent to investigate a series of murders where the Headless Horseman beheads the victims. Is this fiction or is there a reasonable and logical explanation behind the Headless Hunter sightings? Only one way to find out.

Thriller Movies on Netflix 3

The setup is weird but beautiful, with a lot of haze, sounds, and shadows to complete the effect. Note that this is a bloody film with several scenes of beheading, blood, and close-ups that are not suitable for children at all. You, on the other hand, will enjoy yourself.

5. Forgotten

A guy is kidnapped and mysteriously returns after 19 days. The problem? He’s a different man, with no memory of what happened during those 19 days. His brother doesn’t know what to think of this new person who looks like his brother.

Thrillers on Netflix 10

Forgotten is the kind of movie that starts after the second half. You’ll have to wait for the director to create a solid foundation before turning everything you’ve seen and understood upside down.

6. Zodiac

Based on real life events that rocked the city of California from 1960 to 1970, Zodiac is a crime thriller. With a star-studded cast including Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr., Zodiac follows criminal proceedings interspersed with media trials.

Thrillers on Netflix 4

The killer is constantly leaving clues and writing letters, but there is no Sherlock Holmes in this world to wrap up quickly. The investigation goes on for a long time, years in fact, until the very end of the film. Zodiac can seem slow at times, but this is how crimes are solved in real life.

7. Lucid dreaming

Lucid Dream will take you to a burrow of wild dreams where after a certain point it will become difficult to tell the difference between reality and dreams. A father spends three years looking for his kidnapped child, but to no avail. So he starts looking for her in his dreams to retrace his steps.

Thrillers on Netflix 8

If you can’t get enough of Inception then you are going to love this movie because it takes a different take on the dream technique. But, equally breathtaking with a complex ending.

8. Murder Mystery

What happens when you invite Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston to solve a mystery murder? Murder Mystery is a suspenseful comedy. A billionaire is murdered on his yacht, and the New York cop played by Sandler on vacation is everywhere.

Thrillers on Netflix 5

It’s a holiday comedy that’s a lighthearted, goofy, and weirdly satisfying take on the murder mystery movies. There are also a lot of suspects, some of them played by famous faces like Gemma Arterton and David Walliams. It’s a movie that you can watch with your family and even invite the kids out.

9. Secret obsession

A woman wakes up with amnesia with no memory of her past. Her husband takes care of her. But there is something wrong. She fails to love him back, suspecting that he is not her husband. Who is he then and what happened? How did she get into this state?

Thrillers on Netflix 11

Secret Obsession has little to offer in terms of action but focuses more on the plot and all the twists that come with it. Prepare to feel your privacy invaded as you follow Jennifer’s story.

10. The interview

Do you like exhausting and captivating interrogations? The interview has little action to offer, but the scenes are shot in a dimly lit room. What begins as a stolen car and missing person investigation slowly turns into a serial killer hunt.

Thrillers on Netflix 6

It is an Australian film that should have received a larger audience but never did. Fans of The Usual Suspects will love this movie. But, there are more twists and turns as investigators aren’t Saints either and quickly find out that even they are under investigation. A must have for those who enjoy watching thriller and thriller movies on Netflix.

11. Mirage

Mirage is a thriller thriller that follows the story of a young mother. She saves a man’s life in the midst of the storm, and instead of being rewarded with good karma, a chain of negative events ensues.

Thrillers on Netflix 7

The consequences follow one another as the story continues, leading to unexpected twists and turns. Watch the end because it will surprise you even more. A real thriller. One of the best in Spain.

Netflix’s mysterious subcategories

There are so many great movies on Netflix and I barely scratched the surface. These are a good place to start and will keep you busy for a few days / weeks depending on your work schedule. You’ll find out more as you complete them. Netflix’s recommendation engine is pretty good. If not, you can always search for more using the link we shared in the opening paragraph above. Have a nice week end.

As nice as it might be to watch a bloody horror movie with the lights off while you crouch under the covers praying that a clown doesn’t eat you alive, sometimes you want less blood and more … brain. Enter: the psychological thriller, a genre that is all about scaring you mentally and emotionally while terrifying you in the process. What’s not to like? ??

Psychological thrillers are ideal for people who are not inclined to be afraid of jumps and the paranormal, but still want to speed up their heart rate and possibly have eternal nightmares. And let’s face it, sometimes the fragility of the human psyche is even more terrifying than killer sharks. To quote psychological thriller master Alfred Hitchcock, “There is a distinct difference between ‘suspense’ and ‘surprise’, yet many images continually confuse the two.” Then again, apparently this guy also said “Always make the audience suffer as much as possible”, so … yeah.

The Hitchcock films pretty much dominate this genre with classics like Vertigo and Rebecca, but there are also a ton of contemporary psychological thrillers ready to freak you out, from Black Swan and AAmerican psycho, To Eyes wide closed and Missing girl.

Check out 20 of our favorite psychological thrillers below if you’re in the mood to be ~ intellectually scared ~.

1

‘Psycho’

LOOK NOW

Obviously, you cannot organize a list of psychological thrillers without including psychopath. It’s right there in the name. Alfred Hitchcock’s most famous film is about a woman who stays in the scariest motel in the world run by a man named Norman Bates, a man who is … uh … way too obsessed with his mother.

2

‘The brilliant’

LOOK NOW

Stanley Kubrick’s adaptation of Stephen King’s novel essentially ruined rugs, tricycles, twins, and hallways for me. It’s a truly terrifying journey through a man’s descent into madness, and no, I haven’t recovered. REDRUM.

3

“The shuttered island”

LOOK NOW

Just a laid back movie about Leonardo DiCaprio heading to an insane asylum on an island where a murderer recently escaped. WHERE IS IT?! Like all good thrillers, literally nothing in this movie is as it seems, and you only find out what really happens at the very end, how completely and completely terrified you will be. Enjoy!

4

‘Get out’

LOOK NOW

Get out contains elements of psychological thriller, horror, and suspense, but the movie – about a black man visiting his white girlfriend’s horrific family in the upstate – can’t really be defined by one genre. Jordan Peele said Vulture he considers Get out like a social thriller, saying, “The bad guy is society – those things that are innate in all of us, and provide good things, but ultimately prove that humans are always going to be barbaric, to some extent.”

5

‘Thesilenceofthelambs’

LOOK NOW

You would think that a movie about a cannibal who spends his time eating people would fall more into the blood category, but Thesilenceofthelambs is another genre challenge, which involves understanding the dark spirit of Hannibal Lecter, a man who loves the taste of human flesh. Literally shivering.

6

‘Butterfly Effect’

LOOK NOW

It’s an early thriller starring Ashton Kutcher, what more do you want? Oh, a plot involving his ability to time travel through his traumatic memories of the past and change the future? And then he slowly loses his mind in the process? Congratulations, you have ARRIVED.

7

‘Fight club’

LOOK NOW

To explain why this movie is a psychological thriller would be like ruining its ending completely for the 0.001% of you who haven’t seen it before. So I guess I’ll just say this: The first rule of Fight Club is not to talk about Fight Club.

8

“The girl on the train”

LOOK NOW

This one takes the concept of an “unreliable narrator” to the absolute maximum thanks to the main character not being able to trust his own memory. Who tends be a problem when people around you disappear and you wake up covered in blood …

9

‘Creation’

LOOK NOW

I can barely understand the plot of this movie, but basically it stars our man Leonardo DiCaprio as a thief who can get into people’s dreams and steal items from their subconscious. I still don’t know if the movie was a dream … in a dream … in a dream, but FWIW, director Christopher Nolan said this about the latest iconic shot: “It’s important to people because that this is the goal of reality. Reality matters.

For my part, I am psychologically delighted.

ten

‘The Sixth Sense’

LOOK NOW

Yeah, it’s technically a ghost movie about a creepy little kid who sees dead people, but if you know the famous twist of the movie, you know why it’s included on our list of psychological thrillers, mmmkay?

11

“Gas light”

LOOK NOW

Have you ever wondered where the term “gas lighting” comes from? This film! Gas lamp is about a woman whose horrible husband manipulates her into believing she is going mad. The title refers to a particular moment in the film where she sees gas lamps flickering and her husband convinces her that she imagined them.

12

‘Vertigo’

LOOK NOW

Vertigo is Hitchcock at his best. As you’ve probably guessed, this movie is about a man suffering from vertigo and features all the usual tropes of the genre: false identities, sanatoriums, and a few occasional follies. But the best part of Vertigo is the dream setting of the 1950s in Northern California.

13

‘Memento’

LOOK NOW

Don’t give too much, but Memento basically follows Guy Pearce as a man suffering from short term memory loss. Which is hard in all circumstances but especially because he tries to find out who murdered his wife. The film is both black and white and color to signify two different time periods that ultimately synchronize at the end. It is absolutely brilliant.

14

‘Rebecca’

LOOK NOW

Oh, hello again, Hitchcock. This film won the Oscar for Best Picture and it’s easy to see why. Rebecca looks at the set of the “haunted memory of a guy’s first wife haunts his new wife” trope (similar to that of Jane Austen Jane eyre), and the plot is absolutely Savage.

15

“What happened to Baby Jane?” “

LOOK NOW

Arguably Bette Davis’ most famous film, What happened to Baby Jane? is about an aging child actress who holds her sister in a wheelchair hostage in an old Hollywood mansion. But like everyone who’s watched Ryan Murphy’s Quarrel knows, the juiciest part of this movie is what happened behind the scenes: the mad beef between actresses Bette and Joan Crawford, who were notorious rivals.

16

‘Black Swan’

LOOK NOW

Natalie Portman’s turn – by that I mean pirouette, haha - as a ballet dancer who loses her grip on reality in Black Swan, was so intense and over the top that it won him an Oscar. More details would completely ruin the plot for people who haven’t seen it, but be prepared for a major twist and occasional peeling skin. It’s good!

17

‘American Psycho’

LOOK NOW

Kay, so American psychopath is a little less of a psychological thriller and a little more psychological horror thanks to, you know, a few chainsaw deaths, but I still count him on this list to support my husband Christian Bale. And it proves that nothing is scarier than a bored investment banking bureau brother.

18

“Eyes wide closed”

LOOK NOW

Remember when Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman got married? MDR. Either way, they made this iconic erotic flick before they went their separate ways, which is basically about Tom accidentally joining a dangerous masked orgy club (wow, relatable) and witnessing a bunch of wild shit. There’s also a lot of psychological thriller stuff going on, but mostly orgies.

19

‘Missing girl’

LOOK NOW

Otherwise known as the film where Ben Affleck does frontal nudity, this one is about a man who becomes suspect after the disappearance of his wife. Obviously, literally nothing is what it seems. Except Ben’s nude scene, which is exactly what it looks like.

20

‘Fatal attraction’

LOOK NOW

Fatal attraction is a fun ’80s movie about a woman who becomes obsessed with a married man she’s had an affair with. If you are not in the mood, watch Obsessed because it’s basically the same but with the added benefit of Queen Bey and Ali Larter.

New Delhi [India], March 25 (ANI / Digpu): A short story is often limited but also made intensely beautiful due to its restricted form. This is even more true for the suspense genre.
A writer here has neither the time nor the space to create suspense and must be able to create a tense and uncluttered version of a novel, focusing on the most essential elements.
But isn’t that the point of the suspense? A breathless mood that blocks all other thoughts except the feeling that something dark and terrible is closing in on you? Alfred Hitchcock, the master of suspense, once said: “There is no terror in the bang; only in anticipation of it.
If you’re in the mood for a movie that leaves you guessing most of the time, or just need options while staying at home (given the current global scenario), here’s our curated lineup for the weekend. end!
1. In the Tall Grass (Netflix)
Based on a short story written by Stephen King, the enfant terrible of the suspense genre, In the Tall Grass will have you holding your breath. Brother and sister duo Becky and Cal hear a child calling for help from deep in a grassy field.
They are rushing into the grass to help, but there is something very bad on the ground. What follows is a series of time-looped confusion, gruesome deaths, mysterious resurrections, and a story as twisted as the only king could make.
The film is written and directed by Vicenzo Natali, who also adapted the screenplay. It was first presented at Fantastic Fest, Texas, in 2019 and is now available to stream.
2. If something happens (Amazon Prime Video)
What would you do if someone promised you large sums of money if someone died, but you didn’t have to kill or hire assassins? Would you let events unfold or would you take the money? That’s what happens to Julie Reynolds in If Something Happens, and you’ll find yourself debating the question long after the movie ends.
If Something Happens is a film adaptation of When This Man Dies, a short story written by successful New York crime writer Lawrence Block in 1964. The original version aired in the mid-1980s, in the second season of television popular. Alfred Hitchcock series presents.
If Something Happens is an independent feature film produced and directed by Rajiv Whabi, who also co-wrote the film adaptation with Italian screenwriter Sara Beinat.
Speaking of adaptations, Rajiv Whabi was also a producer in the digital film The Yellow Wallpaper (2011) written and directed by Stuart Hackshaw, based on the classic Charlotte Perkins Gilman story of the same name.
3. Sleepy Hollow (Netflix):
American writer Washington Irving published The Legend of Sleepy Hollow as early as 1820, but Tim Burton adapted it into the haze-shrouded gothic thriller we all love.
It came out in 1999 (and won the Oscar for Best Art Direction) but is still a pleasure to watch today.
Sleepy Hollow follows police officer Ichabod Crane to the small village of Sleepy Hollow, where he must investigate a serial killer who enjoys beheading his victims. Ichabod falls in love with a pretty young girl from the village, but must first catch the killer.
Headless horsemen, digging up corpses, making a pact with Satan – all the right ingredients for a weekend afternoon frenzy!
