Kevin Smith Teases Brand New Mystery Movie With Script Page Image
Clerks 3 writer-director Kevin Smith has teased a brand new film with an image of the first page of the script, revealing an 80s period setting.
Director Kevin Smith recently teased a brand new mystery film with an image of the first page of the script. Smith burst into Hollywood with the small black and white independent film Clerks. Shot locally in New Jersey, Clerks cost very little to make but ended up being a critical and box office success, kickstarting his career as a filmmaker. However, the writer-director found the path wasn’t as easy as he’d hoped, as each film he made brought its own set of challenges.
Smith followed Clerks with Mallratsa cult classic today but a box office failure in 1995. Fortunately, his next film, Chasing Amy, resonated with audiences and critics alike and firmly cemented Smith as a Hollywood director. His later work oscillated between varying levels of success, but Smith had cultivated a legion of die-hard fans along the way. Although reception was mixed with the director’s brief shift to the thriller genre with the film red state and Smith flirting with the idea of retirement, her new movie tease has shown she still has a few ideas left.
Now, Black-smith shared an image from his latest script for an unannounced new movie. The screenshot shows the bottom part of the title page, indicating the completion date of the first project on July 17, 2022. The image also includes the first half of the first page, which defines the location and partially introduces a character in the mystery film. Check out what Smith shared below.
I finished a new script today.
One day, I may be able to direct it.
And some complete strangers will love it.
While some complete strangers will hate it.
But that’s if I’m lucky.
Today I have a plan for what my possible future might look like.
And the journey begins again… pic.twitter.com/3NnjaO6Srv

Although Smith didn’t provide any additional details explaining what the story is about, the first page offered clues as to what the movie might ultimately entail. Like most of Smith’s films, the story is set in New Jersey, his home state. However, the most telling piece of information is that the first location in the storyline is a modest house at 21 Jackson Street in the seaside town of Highlands, New Jersey. This address is the same as Smith’s childhood home in New Jersey.
The revelation that the film begins with Smith’s former home in New Jersey, coupled with the first line of the action description that sets the film’s year to 1986, implies that the director’s new script could present a story personal about himself. With Smith just 16 in 1986 and still living in the Highlands, the film could be a biopic detailing a defining moment in his life. However, the script will probably not cover the production of his first film, Clerks, like the next Clerk III is a meta narrative of his leap into film with Randal Graves (Jeff Anderson) playing the role of Clerks‘ author. The new script could also be the movie Moose jaws, the final film in the True North horror-comedy trilogy (Tusk and Yoga Hosers). In the absence of other information from Kevin Black-smith himself, audiences can only speculate what his new story will be.
