Psychological horror film ‘Woken’ is now in production

Some days it’s not worth getting out of bed…

Wake up– a new psychological thriller set in a post-apocalyptic world – is currently filming in Ireland, according to a report by Variety, and deals with a theme that seems relevant to the present.

The feature debut from writer/director Alan Friel, Wake up stars Erin Kellyman (Solo: A Star wars Narrative) and Maxine Peake (Gwen) in a post-apocalyptic scenario in which their island “provides refuge from a pandemic that has decimated the Earth,” according to the logline.

The story follows Anna (Kellyman), who wakes up one day pregnant and unable to remember who her husband is. She also does not recognize Helen and Peter, who are supposed to help her recover her health.

“Disbelief in what she is told leads to a horrific revelation,” according to the synopsis, “and Anna must deal with existential issues brought on by humanity’s destruction of the planet.”

One of the film’s producers, Matteo Oddone of Propaganda in Italy, said he chose the horror genre because “its cinematic language is clear and the genre has a very attentive and well-defined audience”. Oddone added that his goal is to take the genre “to the highest possible level through innovation with new talent, while respecting its canons”.
