Theater School @ North Coast Rep Presents Crime Thriller DOA
The Theater School @ North Coast Rep’s next student production is the DOA murder mystery thriller set October 7-10. Frank Bigelow walks into a police station to report a murder: his own. Does he solve the mystery before his time runs out? Will the killer be brought to justice? Adapted from the classic 1950s film noir, DOA is a fast-paced thriller that will keep audiences going. With cigar-smoking detectives and femme fatales armed with weapons, DOA includes all the black tropes plus story updates that will appeal to modern audiences.
Director Benjamin Cole is determined to guide his strong cast of student actors. “You’ll see compelling stage work and dedicated emotional engagement between the actors,” Cole reports. “What I love most about this production is the constant building of tension and unpredictable twists and turns as each character reveals more.” The show runs a daring 70-minute sprint with no intermission and promises to intrigue audiences throughout.
Cole is a member of the Society of American Fight Directors or SAFD. The organization is an internationally renowned non-profit organization dedicated to promoting safety and promoting excellence in the art of combat on stage. The skills taught in this production’s fight choreography are based on historically accurate techniques, but adapted to keep actors safe and looking cool while telling stories of theatrical violence on stage. Cole boasts, “I am so proud of our student’s commitment to safety while performing all the fighting moments. They were able to do some very impressive routines while still keeping these electrifying characters. “
Performances take place October 7-10 with show times at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 2:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Ticket prices are regularly $ 20 for adults and $ 16 for those 65 and over, children under 17, and serving military personnel.
