This new survival horror movie explodes in streaming
Betty Gilpin as Crystal in “The Hunt”, directed by Craig Zobel.
Survival horror stories elicit a unique sense of dread in viewers, as they pull to the core of what horrifies many of us. We’re fortunate that we don’t need to live a survival story, but know that an unknowing vacation or work trip to a remote resort town might end up being the trip to the front door. from a horror movie; well, that’s annoying.
Movies like Frozen (not the version with Anna and Elsa), the shallows, Descent, and You are next all present the core of human strength, what we are ready to go through and what we are ready to do to others when our lives are on the line.
Another movie that tells an even more terrifying survival story is The hunt, a somewhat controversial film released in 2020.
With Betty Gilpin, JC MacKenzie, Hilary Swank, Ethan Suplee, Justin Hartley, Teri Wyble and Ike Barinholtz, the principle of the film is as follows:
Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are or how they got there. They don’t know they were chosen – for a very specific purpose – The Hunt.
The film made headlines even before its release, in part because of Universal’s decision to cancel the film’s release after two mass shootings in the United States; Knowing the premise of the film, Universal made this statement about their decision.
“While Universal Pictures had already suspended the marketing campaign for The hunt, after careful consideration, the studio decided to cancel our plan to release the film. We stand behind our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film.
The otherwise unremarkable film hit theaters months later, on March 13, 2020, with the initial premiere slated for September 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the studio released the film to stream on March 20.
You can rent The hunt via Amazon if you want to add the movie to your Halloween watchlist.
