Ground:
Jess and Andrea are hiking in the Scottish Highlands. But their adventure vacation turns grim when Andrea disappears after a chance encounter with two men in a pub – leaving Jess to search for her friend in a place she doesn’t know and where the locals are less than helpful. Comments:
When darkness falls had all the makings of an exploitation film that would unleash a violent attack on American tourists as punishment for their naivety, but this film was more of a tame violence, however, the writer, director and star villain, Nathan Shepka certainly does hit the mark when it comes to character development and using foreshadowing to create an ominous atmosphere. 6.5 out of 10, Horror buzz

“Although a little rough around the edges in some places […] When darkness falls otherwise gets the job done delivering a tense survival thriller in an open playground where there’s nowhere to run but in every direction. The fact that it keeps you guessing who to ally with enhances its entertainment value, creating a platform where anything can happen and where you really can’t turn. The movie detective

“A very clever little thriller that manages to play with audience expectations and surprise the viewer with what comes across as a simple yet well-executed story. But once the set-up is pointed in a certain direction, surprise twist is layered in with surprise twist – which is certainly not always a good idea, but here it works very well…” Search my trash

“…like most thrillers When darkness falls has moments that make you shake your head at the actions of the characters […] There’s enough good stuff to make When Darkness Falls worth watching […] Viewers will find themselves guessing their hero and villain choices more than once as the plot unfolds. It just should have been a little faster to do it. 3.5 out of 5, Voice from the balcony
